Assistant Vice President, Leadership, Experience & Development (LEAD)

About the role:

Reports to: VP, LEAD


  • Collaborates with the VP, Leadership, Experience, and Development (LEAD) to provide strategic direction for incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion, and access into AMA NJ initiations, particularly around volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention
  • Develops and takes ownership of the volunteer recruitment plan, budget and metrics reporting
  • Develops strategies for improving our practices and culture
  • Helps AMA New Jersey’s community understand the concepts and terminology around diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Guides our efforts to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all people
  • Presents resources and ideas to guide and receive cultural differences in a positive way within our organization and during our events
  • Helps identify talented and motivated individuals for volunteer and leadership positions
  • Attends AMA NJ events to network with attendees and recruit volunteers to serve on various AMA NJ committees
  • Assists VP, LEAD in reaching out to prospective volunteers by sending emails and/or making phone calls to those that have expressed interest when needed
  • Works with the Communications Committee to ensure that all open volunteer positions are posted and updated on the AMA NJ website and applicable social media platforms.
  • Works with other teams to ensure diversity initiatives and messages are communicated and executed
  • Keeps regular communication with current volunteers to ensure satisfaction with current roles
  • Onboarding – Ensures that job descriptions are up-to-date and accurate
  • Onboarding – Develops and maintains a database of volunteers and prospective volunteers
  • Onboarding – On-boards new volunteers with necessary access to systems and emails used for internal communication
  • Onboarding – Maintains login credentials for onboarding platforms, including Slack, Google Console, and Google Drive

Experience requirements:

  • Degree in marketing, advertising, communications, and/ or related field with experience leading diversity advocacy initiatives
  • Experience with recruitment and retention strategies and initiatives
  • Experience with Slack recommended
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, coordinating across a large, dynamic organization with multiple board members and committees

Time commitment and reporting requirements:

  • Serves 2-5 hours per week, depending on the time of year
  • Oversees volunteers on the Leadership, Experience, and Development Committee
  • Attends a minimum of 3 chapter events and programs (free or discounted price)
  • Attends monthly board meetings and reports out on progress (AVP of committee can attend if VP is unavailable)
  • Provides monthly board report/committee update and dashboard numbers to VP, Business Intelligence before each Board meeting
  • Lead, attend, and organize weekly or biweekly committee calls/meetings and provide committee reports (day/time determined by VP and AVP)
